Job summary

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is offering a Pharmacy Assistant role based at Conquest Hospital, Hastings, with duties spanning dispensing support, customer service and stock control. The post is permanent, full-time 37.5 hours per week, with weekends on rota.

Training provided towards a Registered Pharmacy Technician qualification, with GCSEs in English and Maths required. You will join a busy pharmacy team, benefit from NHS pension and onsite facilities, and play a part in delivering safe

  • GCSEs in 2 science subjects.
  • GPhC recognised Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent.
  • Good basic education.

Responsibilities

  • Develop skills in customer services and dispensing to provide medicines safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain stock to ensure availability for nursing staff 24 hours a day.
  • Provide operational services (dispensing/distribution/stores/porterage) at Conquest Hospital as base site.
  • Support the educational team and work towards professional qualification as a Registered Pharmacy Technician.

Prior pharmacy experience is desirable but not essential as all training will be provided on the job.

You will need to hold GCSE certificates in English & Maths.

Main duties of the job

You will develop your skills in customer services and dispensing to provide medicines to patients safely and efficiently. You will be fully supported by our dedicated educational team and advice will be given if you wish to extend your career further and use this as a step towards gaining a professional qualification as a Registered Pharmacy Technician.

Your job will involve providing the right medicines, to the right patient at the right time and maintaining stock so it is available to nursing staff 24 hours a day. Our semi-automated department uses robots, computers and use of digitally secured medicines storage cabinets. There is a significant amount of heavy lifting involved in the role. Manual handling equipment and full training will be provided in use of all systems, equipment and processes.

You will be required to provide operational services (dispensing/distribution/stores/porterage) at both Eastbourne District General Hospital and Conquest Hospital on an as required basis but will be appointed a base site at Conquest for which you'll spend most of your time.
