Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Optometrist to join the Optometry team at The Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
This is a 12-month fixed-term post to cover maternity leave. We seek an enthusiastic and experienced Optometrist eager to develop their clinical skills in core Optometry and advance their specialist clinical interests such as Medical Retina, Glaucoma, Intravitreal injections, & Laser. Hospital experience is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
The successful candidate will work across core and specialist clinics alongside Consultant Ophthalmologists, other Specialist Optometrists, and Orthoptists.
The role will be tailored to the skills and interests of the candidate, with opportunities in Paediatric, Cataract, Urgent Eye Care, Glaucoma, and Medical Retina clinics.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is an autonomous practitioner providing a broad range of services supporting Orthoptic and Ophthalmology departments. Procedures involve using specialist ophthalmic instrumentation with high precision. Interpretation of test results is essential for prescribing optical appliances and planning patient care.
As a senior clinician, the post holder should manage complex cases independently and provide advice and expert opinion to colleagues. The role also involves teaching, audit, clinical governance, and departmental administration.
