Job overview

The Specialist Nurse / Professional: Safeguarding Children will be responsible for providing specialist, complex and sensitive advice and guidance to staff across GMMH in regard to Safeguarding Children in line with national and local Safeguarding Children Policies. In addition to this, the post holder will be expected to influence, develop and participate in staff and student training and policy development.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Nurse / Professional: Safeguarding Children will support the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children in embedding culture and practice in relation to Safeguarding Children, ensuring statutory and locally agreed procedures are followed, Trust requirements for incident reporting are met, and all relevant procedures are co-ordinated and adhered to.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Pay Enhancements – 30% additional for Evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays and 60% additional for Sundays and Bank holidays.
  • 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays rising to 29 after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years
  • EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS: Professional Registered Nurse, Midwife, Social Worker or Allied Health Professional
  • • Master’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • EXPERIENCE: The post holder should: Substantial experience working in mental health services. Substantial experience of safeguarding children at a senior level. Significant post registration experience. Extended clinical practice underpinned by teaching, supervision and assessment. Audit experience.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • KNOWLEDGE: The post holder should have: Experience of managing and leading on highly sensitive and complex safeguarding Children cases. Significant and thorough understanding of Working Together 2018, Children Act 2004, the Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983 Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards/LPS. Experience of delivering training to a high standard. Experience of evaluation of work /training programs Significant experience of working with service users and carers. Experience of producing high level reports and briefings to senior management, along with recommendations to ensure positive practice is embedded across service areas. Knowledge of mental health, and substance misuse Good understanding and awareness of Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA) Experience of contributing to complex safeguarding meetings.
  • Experience of delivering safeguarding children training.
  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The post holder should: Able to maintain high standards of diplomacy and confidentiality. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills. Able to demonstrate flexibility, problem solving skills and make decisions. Ability to interpret data and prepare reports for service users, managers, staff teams and external agencies. Ability to deal with difficult, emotive, contentious and complex situations Excellent IT skills
  • Experience of organisational change management.
  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Requirement to Travel: There is an occasional requirement to travel across the wide footprint of the Trust to attend meetings and events relevant to the role. Work occasional unsocial hours Access to reliable method of transport across the Trust sites
