We are afriendly and innovative department looking to recruit an enthusiasticAudiologist to work in our paediatric service under our new leadership team.Quality, patient centred care is the focus of the service.
The role willinclude leading assessments for children over 4 years of age includingdevelopment of a management plan and appropriate onward referral, leadingpaediatric hearing aid work for children over 4 years of age and assistinghighly specialised healthcare practitioners in assessment and management ofchildren under the age of 4.
Clinical Skills
Skills andexperience in single tester diagnostic hearing assessments. Fitting, verifying,evaluating and reviewing hearing aid provision in children over 4 years.Communicating sensitively and effectively with patients and their families.
Service Development
Devising,executing and analysing audits with guidance from senior staff. Suggestingservice improvements based on the findings of audits. Developing patientinformation and standard operating procedures.
Training
Providingpractical training in paediatric audiology for students and junior members ofstaff.
Teamwork
Workingcollaboratively as part of the Audiology team and engaging in multidisciplinaryworking to ensure holistic patient centred care.
Practicalities
The role willbe based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but community clinics at Washington andJarrow will also be covered.
The departmentcurrently operates 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and most staff choose to workcompressed hours over 4 days.

The post involves the provision of an all-age audiology service acrossthe Trust, working as part of a multidisciplinary team. This includes theassessment and rehabilitation of a caseload of patients with hearing andbalance difficulties, including some with direct access. Work may be of aspecialised nature requiring advanced skills and a high degree ofresponsibility and autonomy (including provision of off-site clinics).
The requirements of the post will also include the provision of amanagerial function within the service, and clinical supervision of junior andtrainee staff.
The post holderwill work with the Head of Service and senior team to ensure thatclinical and professional standards are maintained at all times.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
