Purpose of this role:

The Sector Advisor (SA) will support the verification of the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science. The SA will remotely sample learner work against the assessment criteria and confirm if the learner has met the standard for particular units of this qualification.

The SA will work with the Standards Verifier to recommend whether units are being assessed to national standards.

The SA must be occupationally competent and have evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in the units they are sampling.

This role would usually involve remote sampling, with physical travel only in exceptional circumstances.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Familiarise yourself with the specification to refer to unit content and assessment criteria during sampling.
  • Provide proof of relevant CPD annually for your specialisms as an SA.
  • Undertake sampling of learner work to ensure valid and reliable assessment decisions and adherence to national standards.
  • Provide sector-specific support, advice, and guidance to the Standards Verifier.
  • Complete the Sector Advisor Report Form (SARF), detailing assessment decision correctness, and send it to the Standards Verifier.
  • Report back to Pearson and the Standards Verifier within 5 working days after sampling.
  • Undertake online supplementary training annually.
  • Perform other duties related to WBL Assessment as appropriate.
  • Support centres in understanding and implementing actions through collaboration with the Standards Verifier.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience Required:

  • Occupational competence in one or more pathways of the qualification, such as Bioinformatics, Life Sciences, Equipment management, Sterile Services, Audiology, Ophthalmology, Respiratory physiology, or Urodynamics.
  • Experience in delivering and assessing competence-based programmes.
  • Evidence of CPD in assessment and vocational qualification delivery.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Willingness to engage in online training and standardisation, and to use technology for communication.
  • Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of the relevant specifications.
  • Customer-focused approach.
  • Effective time management and ability to meet report submission deadlines (within 5 working days).
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Understanding of decision implications on Pearson.
  • Proficiency in word processing and basic spreadsheet manipulation.

Requirements:

  • Personal IT equipment capable of running Pearson-required software and a reliable internet connection.
  • A personal, secure email account.
  • A postal address in the UK or Ireland.
  • Declaration of any conflicts of interest.
  • Availability for at least 8 allocations per year.
  • Agreement to the terms in the contract.
