Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Clinical Pharmacist to join our Cancer team. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to experience various aspects of Cancer Services, including working in oncology or haematology clinics and contributing to multidisciplinary ward rounds for both haematology and solid tumour oncology patients. You will be positioned to provide excellent patient care to oncology and haematology patients. The role is fully supported and trained by our friendly team, fostering personal and professional development.

Main duties of the job
  1. The post-holder will be a specialist in adult haematology and solid tumour oncology, professionally and managerially responsible for pharmaceutical care in Cancer Services at NUH.
  2. Responsibilities include clinical screening of inpatient and outpatient Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT), clinical ward cover, and collaborative decision-making within an MDT.
  3. Work with the Aseptic Unit to ensure safe and effective medication provision.
  4. Contribute to clinical audits, research trials, and service evaluations.
  5. Provide support, education, and training to pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals.

Job responsibilities
  1. Lead and manage clinical pharmacy services in Haematology & Oncology, collaborating with Advanced Pharmacy Practitioners.
  2. Participate in ward rounds, MDT meetings, and contribute to patient care decisions.
  3. Manage and screen chemotherapy for inpatients and outpatients.
  4. Monitor and ensure the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of pharmacy services.
  5. Benchmark services against other Trusts and develop practice accordingly.
  6. Collaborate with network colleagues to implement service improvements.
  7. Lead clinical governance initiatives in Cancer Services.
  8. Line manage or tutor junior pharmacists and trainees, with opportunities to act as a designated prescribing practitioner.
  9. Support implementation and auditing of policies and service changes.
  10. Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, ensuring safe and efficient workflows.
  11. Lead service development projects to enhance care quality.
  12. Undertake core clinical pharmacy activities, providing specialist patient-facing services.
  13. Develop advanced clinical practice to improve outcomes.
  14. Participate in a 7-day rota, including bank holidays.
