Job overview

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity to join the well-established cancer pharmacy team in one of the UK’s largest and busiest Cancer centres.

In conjunction with the Lead ChemoCare pharmacist you will provide leadership to a team of pharmacy technicians and the System Manager and the senior cancer pharmacy team to ensure the safe running of the e-prescribing system (ChemoCare). You will work closely with the Lead SACT clinician and Lead Chemotherapy Nurse to introduce paperless processes for SACT administration. You will also ensure the safe and appropriate use of anticancer medicines in-line with national and regional guidelines e.g. by writing treatment protocols for new anticancer medicines and regimens, and monitoring cancer incident reports.

Main duties of the job

1. Provide leadership support for the governance and day to day operation of the SACT e-prescribing system (ChemoCare), under the auspices of the advanced pharmacy practitioner for haematology.
2. Provide highly complex advice and guidance requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of options on all issues relating to prescribing and therapeutics within cancer, where possible in line with national and local guidelines.
3. Be a Trust-wide source of information on matters relating to chemotherapy and the wider specialty; including providing support to advanced practitioners and non-medical prescribers of chemotherapy.

Training and Qualifications

• B.Pharm / BSc (Pharmacy) or MPharm
• GPhC registered
• Clinical Diploma or equivalent
• Plays an active role in a relevant national network / specialist pharmacist group
• Leadership and/or management qualifications
• Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
• Member of relevant national specialist interest group

Experience

• Extensive previous hospital experience (post-registration)
• Experience in providing specialist pharmacist review of people with cancer
• Experience of delivering clinical pharmacy service and advice relating to the safe use of medicines.
• Broad knowledge base of a wide range of clinical areas
• Some experience of excellent leadership and management skills
• Some experience of line management including effective performance management, recruitment and allocation of tasks/staff
• Experience of using SACT e-prescribing system
• Publication of audit/research/clinical work at national level
• Experience of working actively on national groups
• Experience in project management (including department-wide roles) and evidence of completed outcomes
• Effective liaison with relevant Trust level committees / groups
• Experience of multidisciplinary team working at Pharmacy, Trust and regional level
• Awareness of National initiatives with regards to development of chemotherapy services particularly SACT (systemic anti-cancer therapy) reporting
• Experience of protocol building validation with an e-prescribing system.
