Job summary

Empowering Learning is assisting a Primary and Secondary Special Needs School in York to recruit Teaching Assistants for 1:1 or small-group support. The roles start ASAP and run Monday to Friday during school hours 8:30–15:30.

You will assist with classroom activities, support students with autism and challenging behaviours, and help implement learning programs under the lead teacher. A compassionate, patient approach and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children with special needs and challenging behaviours.
• Ability to support 1:1 and small-group activities in a classroom setting.
• Willingness to contribute to IEP discussions and learning plans.
• Strong communication and collaboration with staff, students and parents.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher in implementing educational programs and activities.
• Provide support to students with special needs, including autism.
• Create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Help with daily tasks such as personal care and hygiene.
• Support academic and social development of students.
• Assist in developing and implementing IEPs.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher.
• Assist with classroom and behaviour management strategies.
