Academics is seeking a calm, compassionate Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with SEMH needs and a possible PDA profile at a mainstream primary in St Albans. Start October, long-term contract.

You will build trusting relationships, use strategies for emotional regulation, collaborate with the SENDCo and SLT, monitor progress, and help create a calm, child-led environment to enable learning and inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH, PDA, ASD or related needs.
  • Strong skills in behaviour regulation and de-escalation.
  • Patient, empathetic and creative, especially when plans need to change.

Job description

Are you a calm, compassionate, and skilled practitioner with a passion for supporting children who think and feel differently? We are looking for a SEN/ Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a KS2 pupil who presents with emerging SEMH needs and a possible PDA profile. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine and lasting impact within a welcoming mainstream primary school in St. Albans.

Although the pupil does not currently have an EHCP, a comprehensive and personalised support plan, developed in partnership with the SENDCo and Senior Leadership Team-is already in place. Your role will be central in delivering and developing this provision as the child's needs evolve.

  • Use effective strategies to support emotional regulation, communication, and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with the SENDCo, class teacher, and SLT to deliver personalised interventions
  • Help create a predictable, calm, child-led environment
  • Observe and track progress, contributing to ongoing reviews of the support plan
