Job summary

Academics in East Grinstead is seeking graduates in psychology, criminology or sociology to join a SEN/SEMH setting as a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant. Special Needs Learning Support Assistant - East Grinstead - West Sussex

Are you a recent or soon-to-be graduate in Psychology, Criminology, or Sociology looking to gain hands‑on experience working with children and young people? Are you considering a future career in Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Mental Health, or Youth Justice?

This supportive and inclusive Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in East Grinstead provides a nurturing environment for pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

The Role - Special Needs Learning Support Assistant

This role in East Grinstead is an excellent opportunity for graduates seeking practical experience before progressing into careers within psychology, therapy, or mental health services.

As a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to support pupils' learning, behaviour, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities for a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
  • Support emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement
  • Assist with personalised learning and behaviour strategies
  • Observe and report on pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Experience with children or vulnerable individuals (desirable but not essential)
  • Able to commute to East Grinstead

What We Offer

  • Fantastic on-site training, support and CPD is provided to ensure safeguarding of all pupils
  • Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 15:30, PAYE, term time only
  • £93-£105 per day
  • You MUST have right to work in the UK in order to apply - no Visa sponsorship

Candidates registering with Academics will need to have or apply for an Enhanced DBS and/or overseas police check where appropriate

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy
