Job summary

Academics is seeking a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant for a SEN/SEMH setting in Haywards Heath. You will support pupils with learning, behaviour and emotional development under the guidance of teachers and specialists.

Ideal candidates hold a degree in Psychology, Criminology or Sociology, with a strong interest in mental health and child development, and possess excellent communication and empathy. The role runs hours 08:30–15:30, term-time only, paid daily.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in mental health, behaviour, and child development.
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and reflective mindset.
  • Experience with children or vulnerable individuals (desirable but not essential).
  • Able to commute to Haywards Heath.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN.
  • Support emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement.
  • Assist with personalised learning and behaviour strategies.
  • Observe and report on pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment.

The Role - Special Needs Learning Support Assistant

As a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to support pupils' learning, behaviour, and emotional development.
