Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join a Specialist SEND Secondary School in Ashington on a long or short-term basis starting in September. This role is temporary/permanent/temp-to-perm.

You'll be joining a caring, experienced team that focuses on wellbeing, inclusion and student progress, supporting students with a range of needs in a safe environment. The role involves adapting lessons and promoting positive behaviour.

Qualifications

• Recent experience working in a school, SEND setting or education environment is desirable.
• Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs such as Autism, SEMH, ADHD or learning difficulties is desirable.
• Solid numeracy and literacy skills.
• A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, education, health and social care or similar — or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Comfortable taking direction from teaching staff and working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A patient, resilient and empathetic approach to supporting young people with diverse learning needs.
• An enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Supporting students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, responding to their individual SEND needs.
• Helping to deliver personalised learning activities and interventions to support academic, social and emotional development.
• Working alongside teachers and other professionals to adapt lessons and resources to meet a range of learning needs.
• Promoting a calm, accepting and inclusive learning environment where every student feels safe, valued and encouraged to achieve their goals.
• Supporting students with emotional regulation, communication and positive behaviour strategies where required.
