Job summary

Milk Education in Ashington is recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a Specialist SEND Secondary School on a long or short-term basis starting in September. You will support students with SEND needs on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, helping deliver personalised learning activities and interventions.

  • Solid numeracy and literacy skills.

We’re currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a Specialist SEND Secondary School in Ashingtonon a long or short-term basis starting in September. This role is temporary/permanent/temp-to-perm.

You’ll be joining a supportive, specialist setting dedicated to helping young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism, SEMH, Moderate Learning Difficulties and communication needs. The school is committed to inclusion and individualised learning, ensuring every student is supported to reach their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Requirements or Skills:

  • Recent experience working in a school, SEND setting or education environment is desirable
  • Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs such as Autism, SEMH, ADHD or learning difficulties is desirable.
  • Solid numeracy and literacy skills.
  • A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, education, health and social care or similar — or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • Comfortable taking direction from teaching staff and working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A patient, resilient and empathetic approach to supporting young people with diverse learning needs.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
