Job summary

The Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking a Special Collections Assistant to join the Library & Cultural Services. You will deliver high-quality reader and enquiry services and help with the care and development of the collections.

You'll support digitisation, cataloguing, teaching sessions, exhibitions and events while working with rare books, archives and other special materials. This campus-based role offers a collaborative environment and opportunities to engage academic and public

Qualifications

• Experience of working with collections and/or archives in a museum, gallery or educational setting.
• Well organised, highly motivated and a brilliant communicator.
• Enjoys working flexibly as part of a small, dedicated team.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a high-quality customer service for Special Collections users and enquiries.
• Retrieve, handle and care for rare books, archives and other special collections material.
• Support the cataloguing, documentation and processing of collections.
• Assist with digitisation, metadata creation and copyright-related activities.
• Contribute to the preservation, storage and environmental monitoring of collections.
• Support the delivery of teaching sessions, exhibitions, events and reading room services.
• Undertake administrative tasks, data collection and reporting to support service delivery.
• Promote Special Collections through outreach, engagement and communications activities.
• Develop knowledge of the collections to support users and enhance access.
