Job summary

The University of Manchester Library is seeking a Reader Service Assistant to join a busy team that provides a welcoming and informative service to customers, both in person and remotely. You will facilitate research by handling enquiries, locating and retrieving material across sites, invigilating reading rooms and promoting the use of Special Collections within the library and wider community.

You will also host remote consultations via video call. Normal working hours are 35 hours per week.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English or equivalent.
• Experience in customer service and enquiry management.
• Ability to work in a team and follow procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and consistency.

Responsibilities

• Responding to enquiries
• Following processes and procedures to make bookings
• Locating material using collections management systems and digital catalogues
• Issuing material and providing handling guidance to researchers
• Delivering remote Research Room appointments over video call using a visualiser
