Job summary

Taste Hospitality Recruitment Limited is recruiting a Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at a popular, food-led pub in York. This busy operation offers a great opportunity for an enthusiastic chef to lead the team while delivering high-quality dishes.

You’ll work closely with the Head Chef, oversee service, manage prep and help control costs. The role is hands-on, with a 45-hour contract and a salary of up to £37k depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Solid fresh-food background with experience leading a kitchen team.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain high standards.
• Strong organisation and cost-awareness.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef with the day‑to‑day running of the kitchen
• Help lead, motivate and organise the kitchen brigade
• Ensure food is prepared and presented to a consistently high standard
• Take an active role during busy services, keeping the kitchen organised and running efficiently
• Assist with ordering, stock control and managing food costs
• Help train and develop junior members of the team
• Maintain excellent food hygiene, cleanliness and health and safety standards
• Take responsibility for the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
