Job summary

Butcombe Group is seeking a hands-on Sous Chef to join our kitchen brigade, helping run smooth service across beautiful pub locations. You’ll work closely with Head Chef to manage food prep, cooking and plating while mentoring junior chefs.

Qualifications

• Experience as a sous chef in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Strong focus on delivering high quality and presentation of dishes.
• Ability to lead and support the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
• Proven ability to coach and develop junior kitchen staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Chef in running a smooth, efficient and safe kitchen.
• Support with food preparation, service and daily kitchen management.
• Maintain high standards of food quality, consistency and presentation across dishes.
• Coach and mentor junior chefs to build capability and confidence.
• Help manage stock, orders and kitchen compliance.
• Lead the team in the Head Chef's absence and support wider kitchen development.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Working alongside the Head Chef to ensure the kitchen runs smoothly, efficiently and safely.
• Supporting with food preparation, service and day-to-day kitchen management.
• Maintaining high standards of food quality, consistency and presentation across every dish.
• Coaching and mentoring chefs within the team, sharing knowledge and building capability.
• Helping to manage stock, ordering and kitchen compliance.
• Taking the lead in the Head Chef's absence and supporting the development of the wider kitchen team.
• Playing a key role in creating a positive, collaborative and high-performing kitchen culture.
