The Group Legal team forms part of the Group Legal & Compliance Department and provides legal support to all business areas of the group. In addition to non-contentious matters, the Group Legal team also has responsibility for assisting with the management of litigation, professional indemnity and D&O insurance related matters and name protection matters (contentious and non-contentious). Whilst a significant portion of the work of the team relates to the UK business of the group, the department provides material legal support to other Rothschild & Co offices around the globe and is responsible for coordinating the legal function across the group as a whole.

Overview of the role

The role is likely to encompass a broad range of work and will include providing legal support to the UK Wealth Management business. This will include, but is not limited to, the following:

• drafting, reviewing and negotiating bespoke investment management agreements, custody and other relevant documentation;
• reviewing and updating the UK Wealth Management terms and conditions;
• monitoring and keeping up to date with legal and regulatory change, scoping analysis on legal and regulatory changes and assisting with change implementation;
• providing legal support in responding to cross border queries, including instructing and liaising with local counsel;
• advising on issues relating to regulated funds including product governance and occasional questions relating to structuring;
• reviewing and negotiating third party terms and conditions, confidentiality agreements, broker agreements and other similar documentation;
• negotiating a variety of commercial contracts for the UK Wealth Management business including IT and technology contracts, ensuring such contracts comply with both internal policies and external regulatory requirements;
• understanding the key principles of data protection which may impact the UK Wealth Management business;
• responding to ad hoc legal queries arising from the UK Wealth Management business;
• providing legal support in connection with ad hoc projects as required;
• contributing to management, board and group reporting as required;
• providing assistance to other lawyers within the team or in Group Legal as required.

Skills required

• Previous experience providing legal advice to wealth management businesses;
• Good understanding of regulation impacting wealth management businesses;
• Excellent inter-personal skills (ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing at all levels, both internally and externally);
• Ability to build effective relationships across the business, including as a member of a small but growing team;
• Excellent organisational skills, good attention to detail and accuracy are essential;
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
• Willingness to take on a diverse workload and to adapt to and embrace new challenges.
