Job summary

Shakespeare Martineau’s Banking and Finance team seeks a Banking Solicitor / Associate with 2-7 PQE to join the firm. You will assist on banking transactions, help with document production, and contribute to business development. Travel within the East Midlands and wider Midlands may be required, with a mix of independent work and team collaboration.

The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, commercial awareness and a willingness to develop relationships with clients in a growing practice.

Qualifications

• Ideally 2-7 years’ experience dealing with banking matters within a law firm, though NQ applications with suitable experience will be considered.
• Willingness and enthusiasm to engage in business development activities and expand client portfolio.
• Highly organized with flexibility to adapt during busy periods.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside senior lawyers on banking transactions and document production.
• Assist on large complex deals with supervision while building a caseload of straightforward matters.
• Carry out post-completion administration and support business development events; develop client relationships.

Job description

Working with some of the UK’s largest financial institutions ensures our Banking and Finance team offers unrivalled expertise with high level knowledge of the issues affecting the sector and the businesses operating within it. The team advise on banking law for both lenders and borrowers, advising on a wide range of property finance, acquisition finance and corporate transactions with specialisms in the healthcare, social care and education sectors. Our experience has developed through working with high street banks, challenger banks, peer to peer funders, invoice discounters and asset-based lenders and corporate borrowers on a number of complex transactions.

The role:

We are seeking a Banking Solicitor / Associate 2-7PQE (however we will consider NQ applications with suitable previous experience) to join our Banking and Finance team. The ideal candidate should have strong technical skills, commercial awareness, and a keen interest in business development, ready to expand their client portfolio. Working well both independently and part of a successful team, you’ll be ready to embark on the next stage of your career where you will be supported and encouraged during this period of growth. This role is being recruited ideally in the East Midlands region, however we're open to applicants from wider Midlands region who are willing to travel as and when required.

What you will be doing:

• working alongside senior lawyers to provide assistance on all aspects of banking, including banking transactions and document production
• assisting on large complex deals with appropriate supervision, as well as building up your own caseload of straightforward matters
• carrying out post-completion administration
• attending and being involved in business development and marketing events
• developing relationships with clients

What you will need:

• ideally 2-7 years’ previous experience gained dealing in banking matters within a law firm, however we are open to experience outside this range, including in-house.
• a willingness and enthusiasm to get involved in business development activities, ideally to able to demonstrate a proven track record of success in this area
• to be highly organised with flexibility during busy periods
