The Software Systems Line Manager is a vital role within our organisation, responsible for line managing staff within the software systems side of the R&D / DevOps department. This role is pivotal in managing both the permanent staff and external contractors, ensuring the efficient operation and growth of the team.
Responsibilities:
- People Management: Oversee the day-to-day activities of the software systems team, ensuring all members are supported and motivated.
- Progression and Growth Talks: Conduct regular one to one’s with team members to discuss career progression, set objectives, and identify growth opportunities.
- Training Plans: Develop and implement comprehensive training plans to enhance the skills and capabilities of the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Headcount Forecasting: Accurately forecast staffing needs based on project demands and business growth, ensuring the team is adequately resourced and the delivery Streams have a clear plan.
- Aligning with key stakeholders e.g. architects to understand technology requirements, stream owners to understand delivery needs for resources.
- Able to drive best practice and change through the department; guiding Guilds and aligning Technology Vision by bringing together key technology stakeholders, such as Architects, Platform owners, Stream leads and lead engineers.
- Contractor Management: Manage relationships with external contractors, ensuring they are effectively integrated into the team and their work aligns with departmental goals.
- Overseeing timesheets and bookings to the departmental budget.
- Working with stream leads to monitor staff performance and provide any support needed to help staff grow.
- Contribute to the construction and running of the yearly budget for software systems.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or relevant experience in the area.
- Experience: Proven experience in software development and systems management, some experience in a leadership or managerial role.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and people management skills, with a track record of developing and mentoring high-performing teams.
- Strategic Thinking: Forward-thinking mindset with the ability to plan strategically and make data-driven decisions.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs maintaining a positive and proactive approach.
