Software System Designer

About the role

Join NFU Mutual's IT Division as a Software System Designer. Reporting to the Solution Design Lead, you will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to design, prototype, and guide the delivery of solutions that meet user needs, adhere to design principles, and align with Brand Guidelines. Your role involves communicating design solutions, supporting problem-solving, and facilitating the build process.

You will evaluate IT system requirements from Subject Matter Experts, ensuring clarity and completeness to produce low-level design documents and accurate development estimates. You will explore options for end-to-end solutions, make recommendations, and prepare stakeholders for decision-making at relevant boards. Building effective relationships with stakeholders and service providers is essential for successful delivery.

Your responsibilities include contributing to design pattern development, facilitating transition to business-as-usual, resolving live technical issues, and developing your skills continuously.

About you

You possess both technical expertise and soft skills. You excel at communication, stakeholder engagement, and explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences. You are dynamic, independent, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, using judgment and initiative to drive progress. Experience in establishing relationships and influencing senior stakeholders, along with understanding integrated systems, is required.

Essential qualifications and experience include:

• Extensive experience in IT system design and/or software development
• Proficiency in prototyping/wireframing
• Experience working within an ITIL environment
• Guidewire system design (desirable)
• An IT-related degree or equivalent industry experience

Experience in financial services, insurance, investments, or pensions is desirable.
