Software Group Manager | Up to £90k | Automotive Technology | Wymondham

Our client is a pioneering force in advanced technology, specialising in the creation of cutting-edge software solutions for automotive, motorsport, and simulator applications. Their systems are used by leading organisations to integrate physical and virtual worlds, supporting high-performance engineering and research projects.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Software Group Manager to lead their Coding & Modelling team, ensuring successful delivery across multiple projects while supporting customer-facing activities. This is a hands-on leadership role offering the opportunity to shape and grow a high-performing software team, maintaining technical excellence and driving innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Software Group, overseeing workload across projects and customers.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the Software Group within Engineering, liaising with other departments.
  • Implement effective resource planning, workload allocation, and progress tracking.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and development for Engineers in coding and modelling.
  • Maintain technical oversight of the software chain, ensuring best practices, integration, and quality assurance.
  • Define and enforce processes, coding standards, and model validation.
  • Support recruitment, training, and professional development of staff within the group.
  • Report progress, risks, and resourcing needs to the Technical leadership.
Role Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven experience managing or leading a software/engineering team.
  • Strong background in software development (Microsoft .NET, C#, WPF, or similar).
  • Familiarity with modelling and simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, vehicle or physics modelling environments).
  • Minimum 7 years' professional experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Ability to deliver multiple complex projects in parallel.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Desirable:

  • Experience in Automotive, Motorsport, or Driver-in-the-Loop simulation.
  • Knowledge of C++ with Microsoft development environments.
  • Experience with real-time simulation environments or integration with external systems.
  • Exposure to vehicle dynamics or control.
  • This role is ideal for a Software Team Lead, Group Manager, or Senior/Principal Software Engineer looking to step into a leadership role in a dynamic, high-tech environment.
