As part of the M&S Software Engineering team, you’ll be joining a well-loved historic brand, working on solutions that serve millions of loyal customers and thousands of colleagues! With ethical values at the core and technology leaders who understand software engineering, it’s an exciting time as we evolve into a digital-first, engineering-led organization, where the quality of our engineering team is a key differentiator.

We seek a passionate Software Engineering Manager to provide technical expertise, ship thoughtfully, and operate with excellence. You will be creative, curious, confident, and an integral part of our empowered, self-managing, multidisciplinary engineering teams—designing, building, releasing, and maintaining products. Collaborating closely with Product and Delivery, you will deliver sophisticated and robust solutions to solve daring problems for our customers.

You will play a key role in driving our ambition to create a top-tier software engineering team, environment, and culture. We invite engineers to join this transformation, build a modern digital ecosystem using exciting technologies, and do the best work of their careers.

You will be responsible for:

  • The M&S Loyalty Partnerships team engineering; building integrations with strategic partners to provide customers access to exclusive benefits.
  • Operational stability of software solutions managed by your team
  • Delivering high-quality solutions that add value to the business
  • Improving team maturity, progressing towards or maintaining Elite DORA Standards

  • Agile Delivery: Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of projects aligned with business objectives. Monitor progress, risks, and dependencies, and coordinate with stakeholders to define scope and goals.
  • Technical Leadership: Drive standards and methodologies for development. Provide guidance on complex projects, evaluate new technologies, and develop the team's technical roadmap.
  • Quality Assurance and Maintenance: Establish quality standards, oversee system maintenance, and ensure prompt issue resolution.

The team uses core technologies like Dynatrace for observability.

Who you are

  • Strong understanding of system design, cloud, and engineering methodologies
  • Promoter of DevOps practices

  • Ability to lead and influence at all levels, technical and non-technical
  • Familiarity with Domain Driven Design and community leadership
  • Ambition to contribute to open-source, writing, or speaking about technology
  • Advanced cloud engineering experience
  • Entrepreneurial mindset in previous roles
