Job summary

GCHQ in Manchester is seeking a Software Engineer to join an Agile team, delivering across on‑premises and cloud environments using JavaScript, Java, Node.js, Python, Rust and Go.

From day one you’ll contribute to meaningful projects, develop your skills, and collaborate with engineers while maintaining security and quality.

Occasional travel to another site may be required; relocation is not offered; you will receive a competitive starting salary with a recruitment bonus.

Qualifications

• Higher education background in a STEM subject (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).
• Practical software engineering experience via projects, roles or placements.
• Ability to work effectively in an Agile team environment.
• Experience with modern languages/frameworks such as Go, Java, JavaScript, Node.js, Python or Rust.

Responsibilities

• Develop software across multiple languages and platforms in an Agile setting.
• Contribute to on‑premises and cloud‑based solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers to deliver scalable, secure systems.
• Share knowledge and learn from colleagues to deepen technical expertise.
