Opus Recruitment Solutions Ltd. is seeking freelance Software Engineers (SC Cleared) for a UK Government digital transformation programme. You will join a newly formed team delivering secure tax information exchanges, focusing on AWS-based development, API integration and production delivery.

The role requires hands-on full stack development with Java and AWS, REST API design, and collaboration across agile teams to reach Beta and Live environments.

For one of our leading public sector clients, we are searching for experienced freelance Software Engineers (SC Cleared) to support a major digital transformation programme within the UK Government. You'll join a newly formed team responsible for building and delivering a critical service that enables the secure exchange of tax information. This is a hands‑on full stack engineering role focused on AWS-based development, API integration and production delivery.

Role Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy secure, scalable cloud-native applications using AWS services
• Build and enhance services that enable the exchange of tax information between systems
• Develop backend services, APIs and integrations using Java and AWS technologies

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer or Software Developer within complex technology environments
• Strong AWS development experience across cloud-native architectures and services
• Commercial experience developing applications using Java
• Experience designing, building and integrating REST APIs and API Gateway solutions
• Front‑end development experience using HTML5 and modern web technologies
• Strong understanding of software testing, automation and quality engineering principles
• Experience working within Agile delivery teams and modern engineering practices
• Experience delivering secure, high‑availability production services
• Previous public sector, government or highly regulated industry experience is desirable

• Location: Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle (supplier offices can be utilised)
• Working Pattern: Hybrid working with 60% office attendance expected
