Job summary

Areti Group | B Corp™ is recruiting two Senior Software Engineers to join a major UK public sector programme, delivering cloud-native, event-driven services and secure APIs in a rapidly evolving environment.

You will collaborate with Technical Architects, Data Engineers and Product teams to translate complex requirements into scalable solutions, working from Leeds, Sheffield or London with hybrid travel flexibility and active SC clearance driving delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience building cloud-native services and REST APIs.
• Proven track record with event-driven architectures (Kafka or AWS SNS/SQS).
• Strong in Java, Kotlin or Go and RESTful APIs (Spring Boot or similar).
• UK Government/public sector experience and active SC clearance preferred.

Senior Java Developer x2 – Cloud-Native / Event-Driven Systems | Public Sector | Up to £470/day (Inside IR35)

We're hiring 2x Senior Software Engineers to join a major UK public sector programme, building cloud-native, event-driven services that support critical national digital infrastructure.

You'll work alongside Technical Architects, Data Engineers and Product teams to design and deliver secure, scalable APIs and event-driven services — helping raise engineering standards while supporting and evolving existing live systems.

Location: Leeds, Sheffield or London (hybrid — travel flexibility dependent on team)

Clearance: Active SC clearance required, or strong confidence of obtaining it

Essential: Prior experience working within UK Government or wider public sector is required

What you'll be doing:

• Designing and building secure, scalable cloud-native services and REST APIs
• Developing event-driven architectures using asynchronous messaging patterns
• Designing and implementing microservices within AWS
• Building integrations across operational systems via APIs and event-based architectures
• Applying Domain Driven Design (DDD) and modern software design patterns
• Developing secure services using OAuth2, JWT and related standards
• Translating business requirements into maintainable technical solutions
• Designing for observability, resilience and operational support
• Building reusable components and engineering patterns to promote consistency

What we’re looking for:

• Strong production experience across at least two of the following: Java, Kotlin, Go
• Strong experience building RESTful APIs (Spring Boot or equivalent)
• Experience with event-driven systems (Kafka, SNS/SQS, EventBridge)
• Solid grounding in automated testing, CI/CD, code review and version control
• Cloud-native development experience within AWS
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code
• Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams
• Strong communication skills — technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Previous UK Government or public sector experience essential

Nice to have:

• Experience with telemetry, IoT or event streaming platforms
• Experience with geospatial or location-based systems
