Job summary

Yorkshire Building Society in Bradford is seeking a Software Development Engineer to join the Technology Services team, focusing on Savings and Payments infrastructure. The role offers hybrid work with some onsite presence in Bradford, usually once a week, and participation in an on-call support rota.

You will develop, test, and maintain software, collaborate with architects and product owners, and work within an Agile delivery environment.

We are excited to offer a superb opportunity for a Software Development Engineer to join our Technology Services team, focussing on Savings. You’ll join a team focused on maintaining and delivering change to infrastructure that supports YBS’s Savings and Payments services. We are looking for an Engineer with a background ideally in Savings and Payments related systems with a strong technical skillset, curious mindset and desire to learn.

This is a hybrid role; with remote working and some onsite presence in our Bradford offices, usually once a week. The role will also be part of an on-call support rota.

About the role

You’ll have the opportunity to

• Develop, document, and test software and configuration, ensuring they adhere to development standards and meet business requirements. You’ll be technically competent and experienced in applicable technologies and platforms

• Maintain systems by analysing programs to diagnose and resolve live defects/ incidents

• Participate in peer reviews of documentation, code, unit, and integration testing

• Collaborate with architects, analysts, and product owners to transform business requirements into technical change, including performing impact analysis

• Experience operating in an Agile delivery methodology

• Continually update technical knowledge and skills using internal training as well taking time to self-develop

• Provide out of hours on call support to ensure critical systems and processes remain operational and resilient

• Perform impact analysis and estimation on requirements and designs

• Ensure that system design meets the standard for architecture, scalability, performance, security and maintainability

About you

You’ll have -

• Knowledge of one or more of the core technologies which form the basis of YBS’s Savings and Finance landscape, including:

• Cobol, Oracle SQL, PL/SQL and Perforce

• Oracle Forms

• Ability to interpret complex information to develop solutions that meet the required business outcomes

• Great communicator finding ways for non-technical people to understand technical concepts Experience delivering software change within Financial Services and an awareness of operating in a highly regulated environment

Desirable skills -

• Awareness, or a keen interest in developing in technologies such as: Java, Spring Boot Microservices, Spring Batch and deployment through GitLab

• Knowledge, understanding and experience of developing software in a DevOps delivery methodology setting
