Job summary

DNEG, a world-leading visual effects and animation company, seeks a software engineer in London to advance deformers, kinematics, solvers, and rigging for Creatures FX, crowds, and animation.

You will collaborate with artists and product owners to deliver bespoke software, ensure interoperability across pipelines, and apply advanced algorithms to improve quality and performance.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent professional experience as stated in Requirements.
  • Strong programming with C++ and Python.
  • Experience with graphics/animation tech areas such as geometry processing, rigging or motion.
  • Experience developing plug-ins using Maya or Houdini SDK.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technologies for deformers, kinematics, solvers, and rigging frameworks.
  • Ensure interop and a best user experience for artists.
  • Improve algorithms to enhance performance and quality of Creatures.
  • Communicate between developers, artists, and end users.
  • Bring technically creative solutions to the team.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to understand artist needs and deliver software.
  • Influence all stages of the software development life cycle and pipeline integration.

Job description

Salary: £60,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant professional experience.
  • Programming experience in C++ and Python.
  • Some experience in fields like geometry processing, deformable objects, or kinematics.
  • Experience developing plug-ins using the Maya or Houdini SDK.
  • Experience developing solutions for crowds, rigging, cfx, animation, or motion-capture.
  • GPU programming experience.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development of technologies that deliver new and better deformers, kinematics, solvers, and frameworks for rigging, Creatures FX, crowds, and animation.
  • Work with peers to ensure technologies interoperate well and provide a consistent ecosystem and the best user experience for our artists.
  • Apply and expand knowledge in algorithms designed to improve the performance and quality of our Creatures.
  • Communicate effectively between technical developers, non-technical artists, and end users.
  • Bring technically creative solutions and ideas to the team.
  • Work closely with Product Owners and stakeholders to understand artist needs and deliver bespoke software products.
  • Influence all aspects of the software development life cycle, including designing, supporting, maintaining software, and integrating tools into our existing pipeline.
