Job summary

Cooley LLP is seeking a dual-qualified UK & European Patent Attorney with 1–3 years PQE to join its London patent team. You will draft and prosecute patents across software, AI, electronics and engineering, working closely with US colleagues on a broad range of matters; pursue client relationships and contribute to growth.

You will gain exposure to patent drafting, prosecution, portfolio development, and competitive analyses for innovative tech companies at various growth stages.

Qualifications

• Qualified UK & European Patent Attorney with 1–3 years PQE.
• Experience drafting patent applications and prosecuting before EPO/UKIPO.
• Comfort across engineering/high-tech subject matter, including software/AI.
• Willingness to advise innovative tech companies across sectors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong commercial focus.

Responsibilities

• Draft and prosecute patent applications before EPO/UKIPO and others.
• Contribute to strategic patent portfolio development for clients.
• Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses and due diligence for transactions.
• Assist with contentious matters such as oppositions and appeals.
