Are you an experienced and compassionate Social Worker dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of children and young people in care? Leeds City Council is looking for a committed individual to join our highly valued Looked After Children's (LAC) Team.

About the Role:

As a Social Worker within our Looked After Children's Team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being, stability, and positive development of children and young people who are in the care of Leeds City Council. You will hold a diverse and complex caseload, working directly with children, their families, carers, and a range of professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes for each child.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build meaningful relationships with children and young people in care, understanding their wishes, feelings, and needs.
  • Develop, implement, and review comprehensive care plans that reflect each child's individual circumstances and aspirations.
  • Undertake statutory visits to children in their placements, ensuring their safety, well-being, and progress.
  • Prepare for and attend statutory reviews, actively participating in decision-making processes.
  • Work collaboratively with foster carers, residential staff, parents, and other professionals (e.g., health, education, CAMHS) to provide holistic support.
  • Prepare high-quality reports for court proceedings, statutory reviews, and other relevant meetings.
  • Support young people transitioning to independence, working closely with leaving care services.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in accordance with policies and procedures.

About You:

  • A qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
  • Demonstrable post-qualifying experience in children's social care, with a strong emphasis on working with Looked After Children.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and guidance, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, and the Children and Families Act 2014.
  • Proven ability to undertake complex assessments, formulate plans, and manage risk effectively.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
  • A child-centered approach, demonstrating empathy, resilience, and a commitment to safeguarding.
  • Ability to manage a demanding caseload, prioritise effectively, and work autonomously.
  • Possession of a valid UK driving licence and access to a car for business use.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive hourly rate of up to £35 per hour.
  • The opportunity to be part of a supportive and highly experienced LAC team.
  • Regular, high-quality supervision and peer support.
  • Commitment to your continuous professional development, with access to a wide range of training opportunities.
  • The chance to contribute to positive change and improve outcomes for children and young people across Leeds.
