Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a committed SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join partner specialist schools in Redhill, Surrey. You will support pupils with SEMH needs to overcome barriers to learning, helping them build confidence and achieve positive outcomes.

As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will work with teachers and families to provide tailored support, develop emotional regulation, behavioural strategies, and collaborative learning experiences for students throughout the day.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children/young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice, restorative approaches and positive behaviour support.
• Calm, patient, resilient, and professional under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a trusted role model.
• Support pupils with SEMH needs using trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
• Deliver targeted interventions to improve behaviour, emotional wellbeing, attendance and engagement.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support during lessons.
• Respond calmly to challenging behaviour and follow school policies.
• Contribute to behaviour support plans, risk assessments and progress reviews.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, families and external professionals.
• Promote an inclusive, safe, nurturing learning environment.
• Monitor and report pupil progress and behaviour.

About the Role

As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom. You'll develop positive, trusting relationships with students, helping them regulate their emotions, improve their behaviour, and engage successfully with learning.

Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, families, and external professionals, you will provide consistent, tailored support that meets each pupil's individual needs.
