Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a dedicated SEMH Support Assistant to join a Guildford SEN setting from September 2026. You will provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH, fostering wellbeing and engagement with the curriculum.

The ideal candidate is patient, empathetic, reliable and passionate about children’s wellbeing. Graduates are encouraged to apply for this full-time, long-term position in Surrey.

Qualifications

  • Experience with children or young people is desirable.
  • Experience supporting SEMH, SEND, ASD, ADHD is beneficial.
  • Patient, empathetic, and understanding of individual needs.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

SEMH Support Assistant - Guildford, Surrey

Location: Guildford, Surrey Pay: £100-£115 per day Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term Start Date: September 2026

A welcoming SEN school in Guildford, Surrey is looking for a caring and resilient SEMH Support Assistant to join their team from September. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.

The Role
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs, including behavioural, emotional, and social challenges.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to support their wellbeing and development.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence building, and developing positive coping strategies.
  • Assist students in accessing learning activities and engaging with the curriculum.
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams to deliver personalised support.
  • Use positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement and independence.
  • Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and wider school activities.
  • Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Encourage pupils to develop social skills, resilience, and self-esteem.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, ASD, ADHD, or challenging behaviour is beneficial.
  • Patient, empathetic, and understanding of individual needs.
  • Confident supporting pupils with emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Able to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
  • Reliable, enthusiastic, and committed to making a difference.
