About the Practice

My Portsmouth based client is an RCVS-accredited, independently run practice with a local reputation near green parks and Portsmouth’s coastline. The clinic is well-equipped for small animal GP work, recently upgraded with a brand-new ultrasound machine, a direct plate radiography system, and a K-laser. A full refurbishment is on the horizon. The team includes an experienced vet who is completing a surgery certificate, supported by seasoned locums and long-standing nurses with over 30 years combined experience. The Head Nurse has been there since 2007 and mentors student nurses. The Practice Manager and client care team ensure a welcoming front of house.

The Role

You’ll work in a supportive, friendly team and be involved in small animal GP work with a varied caseload. Consultations are typically 15 minutes with extra time for complex cases or new team members. Admin time and lunch breaks are protected, and there is always someone available for a second opinion. The role offers a 39-hour week with a 1 in 3 Saturday morning rota (9am–12pm). Part-time arrangements are possible, ideally three days per week with the same Saturday commitment. You’ll receive a day off each week, paid overtime, and an excellent work-life balance with no out-of-hours work.

Responsibilities
  • Provide solid GP small animal veterinary care with effective communication and compassionate client service.
  • Collaborate with an experienced vet and the wider team to deliver high-quality care.
  • Participate in a structured diary system and maintain efficient clinic workflows.
  • Contribute to a positive practice culture focused on staff wellbeing and client satisfaction.
Qualifications & Experience

  • 28 days holiday, increasing to 33 after two years
  • No out-of-hours or on-call
  • Paid professional fees (RCVS and VDS)
  • Generous CPD allowance and funding towards certificates
  • Life assurance at four times annual salary
  • Contributory pension scheme
