Job summary

GKN Aerospace's Filton facility is seeking skilled painters to join the team for weekend night shifts or a 7-day fortnigh pattern. You will spray, touch-up and finish aerospace components to the highest standards, adhering to SOPs and using SAP for transactions.

NVQ Level 3 in Paint Spraying or equivalent is required, with apprenticeship desirable. Competitive shift rates and overtime premiums apply, and baseline security clearance is required.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a paint-related discipline is required.
• Experience in painting, finishing or refinishing aerospace components is preferred.
• Recognised paint spraying apprenticeship is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Paint spraying and finishing of aerospace components.
• Paint touch-up and surface preparation activities.
• Cleaning and masking of components.
• Safe use of power tools, solvents, primers and coatings.
• Work to engineering instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Ensure components are produced right first time.
• Complete work transactions through SAP.
• Identify and report non-conformances.
• Maintain high housekeeping, quality and safety standards.
• Support continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives.

Skilled Painter - Weekend Nights or 7 Day Fortnight Shift

Location: GKN Aerospace, Filton, Bristol

Duration: 12 Months Ongoing

Interview Process: Face-to-face interview

YOU MUST HAVE NVQ LEVEL 3 OR EQUIVALENT IN A PAINT-RELATED DISCIPLINE, such as an NVQ Level 3, Apprenticeship, City & Guilds, BTEC, or equivalent Paint Spraying / Surface Finishing qualification. Applicants unable to provide evidence of this at a later date cannot be considered for the role.

Available Shift Options

Weekend Night Shift

34 hrs per week over 3 days

Friday 2000 - 0700

Saturday 1900 - 0700

Sunday 1900 - 0600

Rate: £31.50/hr once stamp achieved

7 Day Fortnight Shift

Working a rotating shift pattern averaging 35 hours per week:

Week 1

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday

07:00 - 17:30

Week 2

Thursday & Friday

07:00 - 17:30

Rate: £26.25/hour once stamp achieved

Overtime: £30.26 per hour

Key Responsibilities

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum Level 3 NVQ (or equivalent) in Paint Spraying, Paint Finishing, Vehicle Refinishing or related discipline


• Recognised paint spraying apprenticeship desirable


• Manufacturing experience beneficial but not essential


• Candidates from the automotive/motor trade are encouraged to apply


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality


• Ability to work effectively within a team environment


• Good communication skills and a flexible approach to work
