Job summary

NY Highways in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, is seeking a Skilled Operative to join our highway team on a permanent, full-time basis. The role offers a starting salary from £30,273 per year for a 40-hour week, with potential progression and the security of a permanent post.

You will work outdoors in all weather, carry out kerbing, drainage and other routine works, operate highways plant, and manage traffic control as required.

Qualifications

• Experience in highways tasks or highways plant operation.
• Class 2 (Category C) licence.
• Relevant Level 2 qualification in highway maintenance or equivalent experience.
• Abrasive Wheels.
• Traffic Management TM1 and TM2.

Responsibilities

• Help maintain and improve the local highway network, carrying out a wide range of routine and seasonal works.
• Kerbing, drainage, patching & ironwork repairs.
• Traffic management and verge upkeep.
• Operate highways plant & equipment.
• Drive LGV vehicles over 7.5 tonnes (safety checks included).
• Join the out-of-hours rota for emergencies & winter maintenance.

As a Skilled Operative, you’ll work alongside experienced colleagues to deliver essential infrastructure improvements. From kerbing and drainage to traffic management and emergency callouts, your skills will help keep North Yorkshire moving.

What you’ll be doing

As part of a supportive, experienced team, you’ll help maintain and improve the local highway network, carrying out a wide range of routine and seasonal works, including:

• Kerbing, drainage, patching & ironwork repairs
• Traffic management and verge upkeep
• Operate highways plant & equipment
• Drive LGV vehicles over 7.5 tonnes (safety checks included)
• Join the out-of-hours rota for emergencies & winter maintenance

This is a hands-on, outdoor role, working in all weathers. Full PPE and outdoor clothing is provided.

We’re looking for someone who has:

• Experience in highways tasks or highways plant operation
