Job summary

NY Highways is seeking a Highways Skilled Operative to join our Boroughbridge team. This permanent, full-time role involves maintaining and improving the local highway network, carrying out routine and reactive works, and taking part in an out-of-hours emergency callout rota.

You'll work outdoors in all weather conditions with full PPE provided, and benefit from training, clear career progression, and a company vehicle for on-site use. A Royal London pension scheme is also available.

Qualifications

  • Experience carrying out highways maintenance activities is essential.
  • Must hold a Level 2 Highway Maintenance qualification or equivalent.
  • Certifications in Banksman, Abrasive Wheels and First Aid are required.
  • Training in Manual Handling and Safe Dig is desirable.
  • TM1/TM2 Traffic Management qualifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve the local highway network through routine and reactive works.
  • Carry out kerbing, drainage, patching and general site maintenance tasks.
  • Install street furniture and assist with traffic management activities.
  • Operate highways plant, tools and equipment and support emergency response.
  • Participate in out-of-hours emergency callouts and on-call duties.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Highways Operative looking to build on existing skills, take on more technical work and continue developing their career within a respected local employer.

What you'll be doing

As part of a supportive, experienced team, you'll help maintain and improve the local highway network, carrying out a wide range of routine and reactive works, including:

  • Kerbing, drainage, patching and ironwork repairs
  • Installation of street furniture and general site maintenance
  • Traffic management activities and verge maintenance
  • Operating highways plant, tools and equipment
  • Supporting emergency response activities and out-of-hours callouts

You'll also take part in an out-of-hours emergency callout rota.

This is a hands-on, outdoor role, working in all weather conditions. Full PPE and outdoor clothing are provided.

You’ll be successful if you have:
  • Experience carrying out highways maintenance activities
  • Level 2 qualification in Highway Maintenance, or equivalent practical experience
  • Banksman, Abrasive Wheels, Emergency First Aid certification
  • Manual Handling and Safe Dig training
  • Traffic Management TM1 and TM2 qualifications
