Job summary

Mane Contract Services is seeking a skilled Machinist for an established engineering and manufacturing company in West Sussex. You will join a 10-person production team, operating manual lathes, milling machines and NC saws to produce metal and plastic components to tight tolerances.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with 5000VS milling machines, a good eye for detail, and the ability to interpret 2D drawings.

Qualifications

• Experience with 5000VS manual milling machines.
• Able to operate manual lathes, manual mills and NC saws.
• Able to read and interpret 2D engineering drawings.
• Experience machining components to tight tolerances.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated, proactive and able to work on own initiative.
• Flexible and supportive of other team members.
• Genuine passion for practical engineering.
• Welding experience is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Operate manual lathes, milling machines and NC saws.
• Machine metal and plastic components to specified tolerances.
• Work to tight tolerances of up to ±0.005mm.
• Interpret 2D CAD and technical drawings.
• Inspect finished components against specifications.
• Work independently and as part of the production team.

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:00am–4:30pm; Friday, 8:00am–3:45pm

We are currently recruiting for a Machinist to join an established engineering and manufacturing company based in West Sussex.

You will work as part of a 10-person production team, machining a range of metal and plastic components to tight tolerances. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in precision machining, excellent attention to detail and the ability to interpret 2D technical drawings.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate manual lathes, milling machines and NC saws.
• Machine high- and low-value metal and plastic components.
• Work accurately to tight tolerances of up to ±0.005mm.
• Interpret 2D CAD and technical engineering drawings.
• Inspect completed components to ensure they meet the required specifications.
• Work independently while contributing effectively as part of the wider production team.
• Maintain high standards of quality, safety and housekeeping.

Skills and Experience

• Experience using 5000VS manual milling machines.
• Confident using manual lathes, manual mills and NC saws.
• Able to interpret technical and engineering drawings.
• Previous experience machining components to tight tolerances.
• Strong attention to detail and a practical approach to problem-solving.
• Enthusiastic, forward-thinking and able to work under your own initiative.
• Flexible and willing to support other members of the production team.
• A genuine passion for practical engineering, demonstrated through professional experience, qualifications or personal hobbies.
