Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join their manufacturing team within a precision engineering environment. This role is suited to someone who enjoys hands-on engineering work and producing high quality components to tight tolerances. It involves working with manual machines in a fast-paced workshop where accuracy, attention to detail, and pride in workmanship are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment including lathes, milling machines, and related workshop tools
  • Manufacture precision components to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Work to tight tolerances ensuring high levels of accuracy and quality
  • Carry out routine checks and measurements using precision measuring equipment
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to meet manufacturing requirements
  • Identify and report any quality or machining issues promptly
Skills, Experience, and Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Manual Machinist in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Strong understanding of machining principles and workshop practices
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment (e.g. verniers, micrometers, gauges)
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Experience with both milling and turning operations
  • Background in precision engineering or low-volume/high-mix manufacturing
  • Apprenticeship or engineering qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent)
