Job Title: Site Supervisor

Advertised Salary: £31,500 + benefits

Location: Fradley Junction, Burton-on-Trent

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Site Supervisor, administratively based at Fradley Junction, Burton-on-Trent, but primarily covering Coventry & Warwickshire. See working area map here.

We are looking for an organised and engaging Site Supervisor, who genuinely believes and demonstrates that a positive customer experience is central to their work and how they set expectations for their team.

In this role, you will provide excellence in the visitor experience through effective planning and delivery of maintenance and repair works, protecting and enhancing the network's reputation. You will be responsible for your team from scheduling to recruitment, ensuring health & safety and welfare issues are communicated and promoted effectively.

Ideally, you possess carpentry skills or experience in bricklaying or plumbing. A good knowledge of Health and Safety, including risk assessments, method statements, and temporary works, is essential. This is a hands-on role involving construction activities alongside supervisory responsibilities.

Location & coverage: Based out of Fradley Junction, with regular travel across the West Midlands and support for other regions. The majority of work is concentrated south of Fradley Junction in locations like Lichfield, Birmingham, Coventry, and Leamington Spa, including the Birmingham Canal Navigations, Coventry Canal, Oxford Canal, and Upper Trent.

Key responsibilities
  • Carry out construction tasks & supervise a small team of operatives, providing daily onsite supervision.
  • Motivate staff, resolve onsite issues, and support holiday and absence management.
  • Support the Construction Manager and deputise when needed.
  • Supervise construction works, ensuring delivery according to schedule and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other teams, third parties, and customers; organize deliveries and logistics.
  • Act as Temporary Works Supervisor, ensuring plans are followed.
  • Identify solutions for reactive works, and supervise trainees/apprentices.
  • Work with volunteers and ensure effective contribution and support.
  • Liaise with contractors, ensuring efficient delivery and strong relationships.
  • Provide feedback on services, produce information packs, and ensure equipment is maintained and used correctly.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including reports and ordering materials.
Health & Safety
  • Promote safety culture, complete safety paperwork, report incidents, and participate in investigations.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
  • Recognised qualification or equivalent experience (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or apprenticeship in a craft).
  • Valid CAATS competency for plant/tools/equipment.
  • Recognised safety qualification or proven safety experience.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Experience in a construction environment.
  • Basic IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
Desirable:
  • Heritage and environmental awareness.
  • Competency in operating construction plant.
  • Temporary Works Supervision and Lift Supervisor competencies.
