Job summary

Bighams Limited is seeking a Site Services Engineer to support the site engineering team with daily management of all site services, utilities and systems on site. You will assist with stock management, building and outdoor maintenance, and compliance under current regulations.

Key duties include coordinating service contracts, training operators, maintaining safety standards, and supporting trials and equipment solutions to reduce risks in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in FMCG chilled environments is essential.
• Experience with effluent, compressed air, steam, pumped water, and refrigeration systems.
• Contract management experience and knowledge of pressure system regulations are required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain site services and utilities and support site engineering activities.
• Manage engineering stock and assist with building and outdoor maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and company procedures.
• Oversee site service contracts and manage contractors when required.
• Carry out general site maintenance and repairs.
• Support the Engineering Manager with service and compliance tasks.
• Promote safe working practices and a clean, controlled work environment.
• Liaise effectively with operational staff and participate in meetings requiring engineering input.
• Assist with trials and equipment solutions as part of New Product Development.

Job description

We are looking for a Site Services Engineer to provide support to the site engineering team through daily management of all site services, utilities and systems, assist with engineering stock management, carry out building and outdoor maintenance as required, assist with legal compliance management.

Role Responsibility

Key accountabilities

1. Maintain excellent levels of service to the engineering operation through

thorough maintenance and management of site service /utilities

2. To carry out daily checks, tests, optimisation and maintenance on the following site services:

• Effluent plant -in line with our discharge permit
• Compressed air plant
• Water softening and distribution system
• Refrigeration plant and associated plant
• External site water management system

3. Ensure all engineering procedures are adhered to, and all work carried out to

relevant legislation and guidelines.

4. Ensure all work is carried out in a controlled manner, in line with the company's technical procedures.

5. Maintain a safe clean working environment for all members of staff on site.

6. Manage contractors, if required.

8. Carry out general building /site maintenance and repairs.

9. Assist Engineering manager with site service contract management.

Key areas of work:

• Minimise reaction time to site services issues
• Ensure all regulatory standards are met (e.g., EA permit)
• Train operators on new machinery when required
• Demonstrate a proactive attitude toward maintenance
• Promote correct use of equipment

Health and Safety

• Maintain a safe working environment in line with company and legal requirements
• Follow all engineering health and safety procedures
• Participate in the health and safety team and carry out required functions

People

• Communicate effectively with operational staff through formal and informal channels
• Participate in meetings and trials requiring engineering input

Quality / Technical Standards

• Maintain machinery in accordance with quality and technical compliance requirements.
• Follow site technical procedures for general maintenance
• Work closely with the hygiene team to ensure correct cleaning procedures
• Proactively improve engineering functions to reduce food safety risk

New Product Development

• Assist and support the Engineering team with trials and equipment solutions where necessary

Experience

• Previous experience working in an FMCG chilled environment
• Experience with:

  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment

  • Working knowledge of regulations relating to pressure systems and control of legionella
