Job summary

Charlie Bigham's is seeking a Site Services Engineer to support the site engineering team by managing all site services, utilities and systems. The role includes maintenance, stock control, and ensuring compliance with safety and food safety standards.

You will carry out daily checks and work with contractors to optimise plant efficiency and reliability, contributing to a high-quality production environment.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship in an engineering environment.
• Experience in FMCG chilled environment recommended.
• Knowledge of regulations relating to pressure systems and legionella is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Maintain site services equipment and ensure optimal operating order.
• Carry out daily checks, tests, and maintenance on site services such as effluent, steam, water and refrigeration systems.
• Manage contractors and assist in site service contract management.
• Support engineering stock control and general building/site maintenance.
• Collaborate with Engineering Manager and operational teams to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Role Responsibility

Key Accountabilities

• Maintain excellent levels of service to the engineering operation through

thorough maintenance and management of site service /utilities

• To carry out daily checks, tests, optimisation and maintenance on the following site services:
• Effluent plant –in line with our discharge permit
• Steam raising plant
• Compressed air plant
• Water softening and distribution system
• Refrigeration plant and associated plant
• External site water management system
• Ensure all engineering procedures are adhered to, and all work carried out to

relevant legislation and guidelines.

• Ensure all work is carried out in a controlled manner, in line with the company’s technical procedures.
• Maintain a safe clean working environment for all members of staff on site.
• Manage contractors, if required.
• Assist in engineering stock control
• Carry out general building /site maintenance and repairs.
• Assist Engineering manager with site service contract management.

Key Areas Of Work

Engineering Support

• Maintain site services equipment in optimal working order
• Minimise reaction time to site services issues
• Ensure all regulatory standards are met (e.g., EA permit)
• Improve plant efficiency
• Train operators on new machinery when required
• Demonstrate a proactive attitude toward maintenance
• Promote correct use of equipment

Health and Safety

• Maintain a safe working environment in line with company and legal requirements
• Follow all engineering health and safety procedures
• Participate in the health and safety team and carry out required functions

People

• Communicate effectively with operational staff through formal and informal channels
• Participate in meetings and trials requiring engineering input

Quality / Technical Standards

• Maintain machinery in accordance with quality and technical compliance requirements.
• Follow site technical procedures for general maintenance
• Work closely with the hygiene team to ensure correct cleaning procedures
• Proactively improve engineering functions to reduce food safety risk

New Product Development

• Assist and support the Engineering team with trials and equipment solutions where necessary

• Previous experience working in an FMCG chilled environment
• Experience with:
