Job summary

Hyreus in Dumfries is seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to support a major Tier 1 civils contractor on a high-profile infrastructure project. You will provide professional health and safety guidance across site operations, collaborating with project management, site teams and subcontractors to ensure safe, compliant delivery to industry standards.

Ideal candidates will have NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent), membership towards IOSH/CMIOSH and solid civil engineering or major

Qualifications

• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification.
• Ideally TechIOSH, GradIOSH or CMIOSH membership, or working towards professional membership.
• Experience in a Safety Advisor role within civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects.
• Experience with RAMS, site inspections, audits, incident investigation and risk management.
• CSCS/SMSTS or equivalent construction-site experience would be advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide competent health and safety advice and support to the project management and site teams.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Monitor compliance with UK health and safety legislation, policies, procedures and RAMS requirements.
• Assist with planning and coordinating safe systems of work across civils and infrastructure activities.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences and identify root causes and preventative measures.
• Provide guidance to site management, supervisors, operatives and subcontractors on safety matters.
• Support toolbox talks, safety campaigns and initiatives to promote a positive safety culture.
• Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure health and safety standards are maintained.
• Contribute to SHEQ meetings, reporting and performance reviews.
