Job summary

Veolia is seeking an Operations & Maintenance Assistant at Newhaven ERF to operate mobile plant, assist with routine maintenance, and support safe site traffic movements. You will work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, at the Newhaven location, contributing to Veolia’s mission of sustainable resource management.

Qualifications

• Current mobile plant and fork truck driving qualifications with a safety-first approach.
• Ability to operate (or train to operate) a range of mobile equipment and fixed plant in an operational environment.
• Competent, intermediate computer skills, with confidence using site systems and recording information accurately.
• A good understanding of health and safety procedures, and a focus on safe working practices.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, across the site.
• Flexibility to support operational demand, including willing to work paid overtime when required.

Responsibilities

• Operate mobile plant to empty process metal skips and unload deliveries of process consumables, keeping operations running smoothly.
• Carry out routine, basic maintenance checks on mobile plant (oil and water checks), reporting defects and escalating issues promptly.
• Support safe vehicle and pedestrian movements through on-site traffic management, and maintain housekeeping standards across the site.
• Operate overhead travelling refuse cranes following procedures and safety requirements.
• Use weighbridge and plant maintenance computer systems to record movements, monitor activity and support day-to-day plant administration.
• Provide hands-on support to operations and maintenance colleagues with routine day-shift tasks as required.
• Work in full compliance with environmental, health and safety procedures and all relevant statutory requirements.
• Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by site management.
