Birchwell Associates is currently working with a leading waste management and renewable energy organisation to recruit an experienced Site Manager to oversee landfill and composting operations at a key North East facility.

About the Role:As Site Manager, you’ll be responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient running of both landfill and composting activities. This includes managing site personnel, ensuring adherence to environmental and health & safety regulations, and driving performance improvement across operations.
Key Responsibilities:Lead daily landfill and composting operations, ensuring compliance with Environmental Permits and all relevant Health & Safety legislation.
Manage and motivate on-site teams to achieve high operational standards.
Take ownership of site decision-making, compliance, and day-to-day performance.
Liaise confidently with regulators, contractors, customers, and internal departments.
Manage site budgets with a focus on cost control and operational efficiency.
Oversee composting quality control, including sampling and regulatory compliance.
Identify and implement process improvements to support environmental and operational goals.
You will work closely with internal departments including HR, Compliance, and Finance, and maintain strong working relationships with external regulators, landowners, and clients. The ability to influence and foster trust is essential to success in this role.
Required Skills & Experience:Holder of a valid Certificate of Technical Competence (CoTC) for landfill, compost, or treatment.
NEBOSH/IOSH qualification or equivalent Health & Safety certification.
Proven technical knowledge of landfill, composting, and leachate treatment processes.
Experience managing operational teams with a strong focus on safety culture.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Full UK driving licence.
