Job summary

CR1 Group Limited in Wakefield is seeking a hands-on Site Manager to lead a £8.2m distribution centre refurbishment and mezzanine installation, overseeing day-to-day site operations on a 12‑week programme.

This freelance role requires coordinating subcontractors and on‑site teams, driving progress while maintaining safety, quality and programme milestones, and reporting to the project team. Strong leadership and clear communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Site Manager on refurbishment and fit-out projects.
• Experience in distribution centres, warehouses or similar industrial environments.
• Strong understanding of construction processes, H&S legislation and compliance.
• Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive the project to completion.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day site operations through the 12-week remaining programme.
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and on-site teams for efficient delivery.
• Monitor progress against programme milestones and report to project team.
• Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations and company procedures.

Site Manager - Distribution Centre Refurbishment / Mezzanine Installation

Location: Wakefield

Start Date: Immedaitely - Tomrrow / Thursday

Project Duration: 2 weeks (holiday cover - potentially ongoing)

Engagement: Freelance

Hours - 7.30am - 5.30pm

Company Overview

Our client is a well‑established main contractor with an annual turnover of approximately £150m. They have recently secured a national programme valued at around £50m, delivering a series of small to medium‑scale distribution centre refurbishments for a global brand. Individual project values range between £5m and £9m.

Project Overview

The project is a £8.2m refurbishment, including:

• Installation of a new mezzanine floor
• External and façade improvement works
• Car park upgrades

This is a hands‑on management role requiring strong leadership, excellent organisation, and the ability to drive progress while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day site operations throughout the 12‑week remaining programme.
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and on‑site teams to ensure efficient delivery.
• Monitor progress against programme milestones and provide regular updates to the project team.
• Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations and company procedures.
• Maintain quality control and address any issues arising during construction and fit‑out.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Site Manager on refurbishment and fit‑out projects.
• Experience within distribution centres, warehouses or similar industrial environments is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of construction processes, H&S legislation and compliance standards.
• Excellent communication, leadership and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive the project to successful completion.
