Job summary

Alton Park Junior School, part of The Sigma Trust, is seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee safety, security, maintenance and cleanliness of the school site. You will lead a small team, manage contractors and ensure an excellent, safe environment for pupils and staff.

Qualifications

• Proven background in premises maintenance and contractor supervision.
• Experience with on-site health and safety checks and risk assessments.
• Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and security software.
• Desirable: Facilities Management qualification (IWFM/BIFM, CIPD, DSBM).
• First Aid certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead preventative maintenance programs and oversee repairs.
• Check and manage health & safety routine checks (water testing, fire alarms, emergency lighting, PAT).
• Line-manage the Site Assistant and coordinate cleaning and contractors.
• Coordinate site security, access control, alarms, CCTV and out-of-hours calls.
• Oversee budgets for premises, waste, utilities, cleaning and safety.

Are you an experienced facilities or maintenance professional looking to make a meaningful impact within a junior school setting?

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Site Manager to join our team at Alton Park Junior School. In this pivotal role, you will take overall responsibility for the safety, security, maintenance, and cleanliness of our school site, ensuring a high-quality, safe, and welcoming environment for our pupils, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Premises & Maintenance: Lead preventative maintenance programs, handle first-line repairs, monitor heating and plant systems, and oversee minor estate projects.
• Health & Safety Compliance: Act as the on-site Health & Safety Officer, managing routine checks (water testing, fire alarm checks, emergency lighting, PAT testing) and risk assessments in line with legislation.
• Team Leadership: Line manage and allocate tasks to the Site Assistant and oversee the cleaning function and external contractors.
• Security & Lettings: Coordinate site security (locking/unlocking, alarms, CCTV), respond to out-of-hours callouts, and support community lettings and school events.
• Budget Management: Oversee agreed budgets for premises, waste, utilities, cleaning, and health & safety.

What We're Looking For:
You are the perfect fit for our team if you have:

• Proven background in premises maintenance, contractor supervision, first-response repairs, and conducting site-wide H&S checks.
• Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS), security software, cleaning specifications, and COSHH regulations.
• A relevant Facilities Management qualification (e.g., IWFM/BIFM, CIPD, DSBM) is desirable, along with First Aid certification.
• Excellent communication, sound decision-making under pressure, and strong organisational skills to prioritise competing demands effectively.
• A flexible attitude towards working hours to support school events, holiday periods, and occasional short-notice operational needs.
