Job summary

The Sigma Trust is seeking a proactive Site Manager for Alton Park Junior School. You will be responsible for safety, security, maintenance and cleanliness of the school site, ensuring a high-quality, welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Lead maintenance, manage budgets, coordinate security and lettings, and supervise the Site Assistant and contractors. A facilities management qualification and First Aid are desirable, with flexible hours to support events.

Qualifications

• Proven background in premises maintenance and supervising contractors.
• Experience conducting site-wide H&S checks and regular risk assessments.
• Familiarity with BMS, security software and COSHH.
• Desirable FM qualification; First Aid certification.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills with ability to prioritise.

Responsibilities

• Lead preventative maintenance programs and oversee repairs and minor estate projects.
• Act as on-site Health & Safety Officer and conduct safety checks.
• Line manage Site Assistant, oversee cleaning and external contractors.
• Coordinate site security, alarms, CCTV and out-of-hours callouts; support lettings and events.
• Oversee budgets for premises, waste, utilities, cleaning and health & safety.

Are you an experienced facilities or maintenance professional looking to make a meaningful impact within a junior school setting?

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Site Manager to join our team at Alton Park Junior School. In this pivotal role, you will take overall responsibility for the safety, security, maintenance, and cleanliness of our school site, ensuring a high-quality, safe, and welcoming environment for our pupils, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Premises & Maintenance: Lead preventative maintenance programs, handle first-line repairs, monitor heating and plant systems, and oversee minor estate projects.
• Health & Safety Compliance: Act as the on-site Health & Safety Officer, managing routine checks (water testing, fire alarm checks, emergency lighting, PAT testing) and risk assessments in line with legislation.
• Team Leadership: Line manage and allocate tasks to the Site Assistant and oversee the cleaning function and external contractors.
• Security & Lettings: Coordinate site security (locking/unlocking, alarms, CCTV), respond to out-of-hours callouts, and support community lettings and school events.
• Budget Management: Oversee agreed budgets for premises, waste, utilities, cleaning, and health & safety.

What We're Looking For:

You are the perfect fit for our team if you have:

• Proven background in premises maintenance, contractor supervision, first-response repairs, and conducting site-wide H&S checks.
• Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS), security software, cleaning specifications, and COSHH regulations.
• A relevant Facilities Management qualification (e.g., IWFM/BIFM, CIPD, DSBM) is desirable, along with First Aid certification.
• Excellent communication, sound decision-making under pressure, and strong organisational skills to prioritise competing demands effectively.
• A flexible attitude towards working hours to support school events, holiday periods, and occasional short-notice operational needs.
