Job summary

Alton Park Junior School is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work with class teachers and support learning in line with the national curriculum. The role focuses on helping pupils feel safe, happy and valued while contributing to a positive classroom environment.

Key duties include supporting individuals or small groups, implementing planned activities, promoting literacy and numeracy, and assisting with ICT use. NVQ Level 2 in Learning Support or equivalent is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in a school/early years environment.
• Experience working with children with SEMH needs.
• Basic knowledge of First Aid and understanding of school policies.

We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work in partnership with class teachers to support learning in line with the national curriculum, codes of practice, and school policies and procedures.

• Contract Type:Permanent
• Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks)
• Working Hours:27.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (term time only)
• Working Pattern:8:45am - 3:15pm Monday to Friday

A Day in the Life:

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Working with individuals or small groups of children under the direction of teaching staff
• Implementing planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher, adjusting activities according to pupils’ responses as appropriate
• Establishing positive relationships with pupils
• Supporting pupils with activities which support literacy and numeracy skills
• Supporting the use of ICT in the classroom and developing pupils’ competence and independence in its use
• Promoting positive pupil behaviour in line with school policies and helping to keep pupils on task.

What We're Looking For:

You are the perfect fit for our team if you:

• Have successful experience working with children in a school/early years environment
• Have successful experience working with children with SEMH needs
• Have basic knowledge of First Aid and understanding of the school
• Being educated to NVQ Level 2 in Learning Support/Early Years, NNEB or equivalent qualification/experience would be an advantage.
