Job summary

Southern Water is seeking a Site Manager to support multi-disciplinary civil engineering projects within the Southern Water Framework in Chichester, West Sussex. You will lead day-to-day site activities, maintain records, and ensure safety, quality, and programme delivery across the works.

The role requires 5+ years at site manager level, relevant qualifications (HNC/HND or higher), and familiarity with water treatment processes and CDM responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of site management experience in civil engineering or water/wastewater projects.
  • Knowledge of CDM health and safety responsibilities and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day site management and delivery of the programme.
  • Ensure HS&E and QA standards are met per procedures.
  • Maintain accurate site diaries and project records.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and subcontractors.
  • Produce weekly/monthly progress reports.
  • Supervise site team and supply chain.
  • Report progress to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure risk assessments, method statements and permit-to-work are in place.

Within our Environment Business Division (Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Engineering), we are seeking a Site Manager to support the delivery of water and wastewater projects across the Southern Water Framework. In this role, you will contribute to the successful delivery of multi-disciplinary civil engineering projects, helping achieve strong outcomes across programme, cost, safety, and quality.

What you'll be doing:
  • Leading day-to-day site management, including developing, monitoring, and delivering the programme
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental (HS&E), and quality standards in line with company procedures
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date site diaries and project records
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders and subcontractors
  • Producing weekly and monthly progress reports
  • Managing sections of work, including supervising and supporting the site team and supply chain
  • Reporting progress and performance to the Project Manager
  • Ensuring risk assessments, method statements, permit-to-work systems, site inductions, and safety briefings are completed
  • Carrying out daily, weekly, and monthly inspections in line with Business Management System (BMS) requirements
  • Ensuring quality assurance (QA) processes and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) are developed, maintained, and followed

  • Experience working at Site Manager level (typically 5+ years or equivalent experience)
  • Relevant industry qualifications (HNC/HND or higher, or equivalent)
  • Understanding of engineering and construction principles and practices
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and industry standards
  • Familiarity with water and wastewater treatment processes or similar sectors
  • Experience applying CDM health and safety responsibilities, including managing design and technical risk
  • Relevant certifications such as CSCS, SMSTS, First Aid, IOSH Environmental (or equivalent)
  • Confidence using IT systems, including MS Excel and document management tools
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Experience supporting, coordinating, or leading teams
Desirable:
  • Temporary Works Coordinator certification
  • Water hygiene training
  • EUSR (1 & 2 USC)
