Hemlock Stone School in Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, is seeking a Site Maintenance Assistant to help keep the buildings safe, clean and functional for pupils and staff.

The role involves routine maintenance, urgent repairs, health and safety compliance, and liaising with colleagues to prioritise tasks. A full UK driving licence is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in a maintenance, facilities or caretaking role or strong hands-on skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs.
• Good awareness of health and safety and safe systems of work.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
• Willingness to learn and develop skills over time.
• Full UK driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out routine maintenance across the school site, including planned checks and minor repairs
• Responding to faults and completing urgent repairs to ensure spaces remain safe and functional
• Supporting the upkeep of buildings and grounds, helping maintain a clean, well-presented environment
• Assisting with the preparation of rooms and facilities for day-to-day use and school activities
• Working with site processes for reporting, recording and prioritising tasks
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, including safe working practices
• Liaising with colleagues so maintenance needs are communicated clearly and addressed efficiently
• From quick fixes to longer-term improvements, contributing to a safe and welcoming school environment

About You

• Experience in a maintenance, facilities, caretaking or similar role (or strong hands‑on skills gained in another setting)
• A practical approach to troubleshooting and completing repairs
• Good awareness of health and safety and safe systems of work
• The ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
• Good communication skills and a positive, service‑focused attitude
• A willingness to learn and develop your skills over time
• Full UK driving licence is required

Hemlock Stone School in Stapleford, Nottinghamshire opened in March 2026, and caters for up to 66 pupils, providing a specialist learning environment for young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and Complex Needs.
